10 November 2011 Giovanni Scala è nato a Praiano negli anni quaranta. Musicista, scrittore, uomo dalle mille attività dice di se di non aver mai lavorato in vita sua. Forse perchè il suo lavoro è stato anche il suo più grande divertimento: la fotografia. 22 July 2011 Dall'1 al 4 Agosto si rinnova una delle antiche tradizioni del ricco patrimonio culturale di Praiano: La Luminaria di San Domenico. Praiano si illumina tutta di mille candele che adornano le terrazze, le finestre, i giardini, le stradine, le cupole delle abitazioni. I giovani di Praiano danno vita, con 2000 candele, al decoro della piazza di San Gennaro. Nella piazza una serie di spettacoli coinvolgenti si susseguono, con tema centrale il fuoco: giochi pirotecnici, danza, macchine sceniche. La Luminaria ha un preciso significato: la mamma di San Domenico, prima di partorire, sognò un cane con una fiaccola in bocca che incendiava il Mondo, a significare che il nascituro avrebbe portato in tutto il Mondo la Parola di Dio.

22 luglio 2011 This year, once again, Praiano stages the wonderful Luminaria di San Domenico (Saint Domenic). The people of Praiano celebrate this ancient tradition by lighting thousands of candles in honour of the saint of Santa Maria a Castro, perched high above the town on the path of the gods (Sentiero Degli Dei). This historical celebration began more than 400 years ago. The mother of San Domenico, on the night before his birth, dreamed of a dog with a flaming torch in his mouth, symbolising that he would illuminate the world by spreading the word of God. At sunset during the days of the Luminaria, thousands of candles and flaming torches illuminate the streets and piazzas of the town. The inhabitants decorate their window sills, terraces, and roofs with candles; the youth of the town use flickering candles to create a magical design on the maiolica pavement of the Piazza San Gennaro (Vettica Maggiore). The festival features a number of breathtaking performances centred around the theme of fire, and gastronomic evenings with traditional foods, recipes and local produce. The 2011 festival opens with an extraordinary performance by the Compagnia dei Folli. This year, the anniversary of 150 years of the unification of Italy, the Luminaria includes a special “Tricolore” (the colours of the Italian flag) evening. For the finale of the festival, the night of August 4, miniature illuminated hot air balloons will be launched into the sky above Praiano. The event is sponsored by the Region of Campania, the Province of Salerno, the CCIAA of Salerno, and the Regional Park of Monti Lattari. The program has been prepared by the commune of Praiano and the Pelagos-Tourist Office, in collaboration with the Parish of San Gennaro.

9 agosto 2010 Come ogni anno si riconferma il tradizionale Concerto all'Alba organizzato da Festival di Ravello. Da sempre uno degli appuntamenti più seguiti dell'intera kermesse. Una lunga notte di musica nella serata delle stelle, la notte di San Lorenzo. La location è lo splendido Belvedere di Villa Rufolo. Il clou di questa "notte bianca" è un concerto emozionante, affidato alla direzione di Aurelio Canonici sul podio della Savaria Symphony Orchestra, che inizierà alle 4.30 del mattino, al culmine di una notte tutta animata dalla musica, per concludersi al sorgere del sole, sulle note di Wagner e Liszt.

18 July 2010 La Luminaria di San Domenico è una antica tradizione del ricco patrimonio storico e culturale di Praiano, si festeggia dal 1 al 4 agosto di ogni anno al convento di Santa Maria a Castro, dove si venera San Domenico. Tale devozione si tramanda dal 1606 ca, dalla venuta dei frati Domenicani della Sanità di Napoli. La festività è preceduta da un triduo, durante il quale tutti i cittadini si spendono in affascinanti illuminazioni a cera, adornando le terrazze,le finestre, i giardini, le stradine ,le cupole delle abitazioni. I giovani praianesi decorano con 2000 candele il decoro di piazza San Gennaro.

18 luglio 2010 Every year, since 1606, Praiano inhabitants used to decorate its balconies, terraces, gardens with lighting system composed by wax and oil. This custom handed from 1599, when Dominican Monks came to the Monastery of Santa Maria a Castro, placed on the hill above Praiano. "Luminaria di San Domenico" is an Event which comes true every year from August 1st to August 4th to celebrate San Domenico. On August 4th , very early in the morning (the first Mass is at 6.30 am), Praiano celebrates San Domenico's Festival. "Luminaria di San Domenico" has a particular meaning: Domenico's Mother, before giving him birth, she dreamed a dog with a torch in his mouth to burn the world. So when Domenico was born he had to diffuse "God's word all over the world".

25 May 2010 L'evento "I Suoni degli Dei" - Concerti sul Sentiero Degli Dei, unisce la passione per la musica e l'amore per l'ambiente, con una serie di concerti di musica classica e contemporanea eseguiti lungo alcuni incantevoli tratti dei Monti Lattari, sul sagrato della chiesa di Santa Maria a Castro e tra i ruderi di antiche abitazioni rupestri. Ogni appuntamento prevede escursioni a piedi da Praiano, Agerola e Positano fino al celebre Sentiero, teatro naturale dal quale si gode un panorama spettacolare che spazia da Punta Campanella fino all'isola di Capri. L'evento, unico nel suo genere, è un modo nuovo e diverso di fare trekking, a contatto, al tempo stesso, con la natura e la musica . Gli appuntamenti "I Suoni degli Dei" Concerti sul Sentiero degli Dei 2010 riprenderanno tutti i mercoledì di Maggio, Settembre ed Ottobre 2010 con repertorio di musica classica.

25 maggio 2010 The event "Sounds of the Gods - Concerts on the Path of the Gods, combines a passion for music and love for the environment, with a series of concerts of classical and contemporary music performed along some beautiful stretches of Monti Lattari, to the church of Santa Maria a Castro, in the ruins of ancient cave dwellings. Each event includes walking tours of Praiano and Positano Agerola to the famous Trail, natural theater where you can enjoy a spectacular panorama that stretches from Punta Campanella to the island of Capri. The event is unique, is a new and different way to go trekking in contact at the same time, with nature and music. Appointments "Sounds of the Gods - Concerts on the Path of the Gods" will resume in 2010 every Wednesday in May, September and October 2010 with a repertoire of classical music.

28 July 2008 Questa tipica usanza vede la partecipazione di tutti i cittadini di Praiano, i quali con delle singolari ed affascinanti illuminazioni a cera, ad olio e grandi falò fatti con ?fascine?, adornano le terrazze, le finestre, i giardini, le stradine e le cupole delle abitazioni . La Luminaria si realizza i primi di agosto per festeggiare il San Domenico, venerato nella chiesa di Santa Maria ad Castro. Il particolare evento ha un suo preciso significato: ?la mamma di San Domenico, prima di partorire, sognò un cane con una fiaccola in bocca che incendiava il mondo; il nascituro avrebbe portato in tutto il mondo la Parola di Dio?. Questa tradizione si tramanda dal 1599, venuta dei Domenicani al Convento di Santa Maria ad Castro. Durante le 4 serate piazza San Gennaro viene decorata con 3000 candele ogni sera e ogni anno sono correlati ad essa eventi con affascinanti e suggestivi spettacoli di luci, fuoco, danza e degustazioni di piatti tipici dei frati Domenicani.Dalle prime ore del mattino del 4 agosto, ricorrono invece le cerimonie religiose in onore di San Domenico presso convento di Santa Maria a Castro.

9 May 2008 I Suoni degli Dei è un evento che nasce da un' idea dell'Associazione Pelagos e del Comune di Praiano, nuova nel suo genere per la Costa d'Amalfi e del Parco Regionale dei Monti Lattari. I primi appuntamenti, che raduneranno musicisti nazionali ed internazionali sul sentiero più bello del mondo, avranno inizio i mercoledì di maggio 2008 e riprenderanno, dopo la pausa estiva, nei mercoledì di settembre ed ottobre. L?idea del progetto è quella di unire la passione per la musica e l'amore per l'ambiente con una serie di concerti dalla classica alla contemporanea, che avranno luogo negli incantevoli scorci dei Monti Lattari, nel sagrato della chiesa di Santa Maria a Castro e nei ruderi di antiche abitazioni rupestri . Ogni appuntamento prevede un?escursione a piedi da Praiano, Agerola e Positano fino al sentiero, teatro naturale di questi luoghi, che spazia da Punta Campanella all'isola di Capri. Agli appuntamenti, che prendono vita nelle prime ore del mattino o del tramonto, se ne aggiungeranno alcuni particolarmente suggestivi nelle notti di luna piena. Sarà questo un modo diverso di fare trekking e un modo per stare più a contatto con la natura e la musica.

In spring 2008 the performances will be each Wednesday during May. The autumn performances will be Wednesdays throughout September and October. The theme of the project is to unite the passion of music and love of the environment in a series of concerts of both classical and contemporary music, in such unforgettable places as the amazing peaks of monti Lattari, the wonderful surroundings of the church of Santa Maria a Castro, and ancient stone ruins. Each performance will begin with an excursion on foot from Praiano, Agerola and Positano to reach the Sentiero degli Dei, a natural theatre suspended high above the Punta Campanella and the Isle of Capri. The performances will come to life in the morning hours, or towards sunset.There will also be some magical night performances under the full moon.This will be a new and different way of hiking, in which one will be in intimate harmony with nature and music.
